480 Authentication Error – Easynews Access Help

If you receive a "480 Authentication Required" error when trying to access Usenet through a newsreader with Easynews, it typically indicates an issue with login credentials or configuration. Use the checklist below to resolve the issue.

1. Double-Check Your Username and Password

Make sure your Easynews username and password are entered exactly as they appear in your account settings. These fields are case-sensitive and must not contain any extra spaces.

2. Confirm You’re Using the Correct Server Address

Use the following Easynews server address:

  • For NNTP access: news.easynews.com

Make sure your newsreader or automation tool is pointing to the appropriate server based on your preferences.

3. Use the Right Port Number

Check that your software is using one of the correct ports:

  • SSL Ports: 563 or 443

  • Non-SSL Port: 119

Switching to SSL is recommended for privacy when accessing Usenet over the Internet.

4. Confirm Your Account is Active

If your account has expired or payment has not been processed, access will be restricted. Visit your account dashboard to confirm your subscription status.

5. Avoid Simultaneous Logins Beyond Your Plan Limit

Using more simultaneous connections than your Easynews plan supports may lead to authentication errors. Refer to your plan details to review connection limits.
