Using SABnzbd with Easynews on macOS

SABnzbd is a popular Usenet automation tool available for macOS. This guide will help you set it up with your Easynews account, so you can quickly access articles from your favorite Usenet groups.

Step 1: Get SABnzbd for macOS

Visit https://sabnzbd.org/downloads and select the macOS version of the application. Once the installer is saved to your system, open the .dmg and drag SABnzbd to your Applications folder. Launch SABnzbd to begin the initial setup process.

Step 2: Launch Setup Wizard

When you first open SABnzbd, it will launch the Quick-Start Wizard in your default Web browser. This step-by-step process will walk you through the basic configuration.

Step 3: Initial Configuration

During the first screen, choose your preferred language.

On the following screen, enter your Easynews server details:

  • Server Address: news.easynews.com

  • Port: 563 (for SSL)

  • Username: Your Easynews username

  • Password: Your Easynews password

  • SSL: Checked (recommended)

Click "Test Server" to confirm the connection, then proceed to the next step.

If you need to add or modify Easynews server details after the initial setup, go to Settings > Servers in the SABnzbd interface.

Click Add Server, then enter the following Easynews settings:

  • Server Description: A simple name so you can identify the server details

  • Host: news.easynews.com

  • Port: 563

  • SSL: Checked

  • Username and Password: Your Easynews credentials

You can also adjust the number of connections here. Easynews supports up to 60.

Press the Test Server button and make sure the Connection Successful! text appears.

Should you see an error code, double-check the information entered for any mistakes. If the issue continues, contact our Support Team with the error code for further assistance. Select Save Changes to finalize the settings and verify that the server is checked under Enabled.

Step 4: Finish Setup

Once your Easynews server connection is confirmed, continue through the rest of the wizard. SABnzbd will finalize the setup and present you with the main interface. Bookmark this Web interface URL for easy access later.

Step 5: Optional: Adjust Server Priority

If you use more than one Usenet provider, you can set Easynews as your primary server by going to Config > Servers and adjusting the priority to "0" (highest). This helps SABnzbd choose the most reliable source first.

Step 6: Final Tips

  • Use the Status and Interface Options page to monitor current activity.

  • Organize folders in Config > Folders to determine where your articles will be stored on your device.

  • Adjust post-processing options under Config > Switches to fit your preferences.
