Global Search 2.0: Supported and Unsupported Methods
Easynews' Global Search 2.0 provides several techniques for refining searches across Usenet. Below are the supported and unsupported search methods:
Supported Search Methods
-
Combining Terms with AND
Enter multiple words separated by spaces (e.g.,A B C
) to search for articles containing all of the specified terms. -
Combining Terms with OR
Use the pipe symbol without spaces (e.g.,A|B|C
) to search for articles containing any of the specified terms. -
Excluding Specific Terms
Add an exclamation mark before a word to exclude it (e.g.,ABC !DEF
). This searches for articles containing "ABC" but excluding those that include "DEF." -
General Exclusion
Start your search with an exclamation mark followed by a term (e.g.,!DEF
) to exclude articles containing that term. This must be used with at least one positive search term.
Unsupported Search Methods
-
Exact Phrase Search
Searches using quotation marks around a phrase (e.g.,"A B"
) are not supported. -
Wildcard Searches
Using asterisks or question marks for wildcard searching (e.g.,ABC*
orABC?
) is not supported. -
Regular Expressions
Regular expression searches are not supported.
Understanding the available search options in Global Search 2.0 helps tailor Usenet queries for more accurate article retrieval based on Easynews' supported formats.
