503 Error When Logging Into Easynews NNTP Server

A 503 error from the Easynews NNTP server usually indicates a temporary issue with access. This error often appears as:

502 (or 503) - Too many connections or 503 - Authentication failed or Server error

This can happen for a number of reasons, including incorrect login credentials, connection limits, or blocked ports. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Confirm Your Login Credentials

Make sure your Easynews username and password are correct. These are the same credentials used to log in to the Easynews control panel and Web interface. If you've recently changed your password, update it in your newsreader settings.

If you’re unsure of your current password or want to reset it, visit: https://help.easynews.com/kb/article/23-forgot-username-or-password/ for instructions.

Step 2: Review Connection Limits

Easynews NNTP access includes a set number of connections, depending on your plan. If your newsreader is configured to use more connections than your account allows, a 503 error may occur.

To adjust this, go into your newsreader’s server settings and reduce the number of simultaneous connections.

Step 3: Check Port Settings

Some Internet providers block standard Usenet ports. Easynews supports several alternative ports to help bypass these restrictions:

  • SSL Ports: 563, 8080

  • Non-SSL Ports: 119, 80, 21, 23, 443, 8080

Using SSL is recommended for encrypted access. You can change the port in your newsreader’s server configuration.

Step 4: Verify Server Address

Make sure you're connecting to the correct server:

  • NNTP Server: news.easynews.com

Step 5: Try a Different Newsreader or Network

If the error persists, try connecting through a different newsreader or switch to another Internet connection. This can help identify if the issue is related to the software or your Internet provider.
