Slow Speeds with Easynews

If you're experiencing slower-than-expected speeds while accessing Easynews, several factors may be contributing to the issue. This article outlines possible causes and solutions to help improve your Usenet performance.

1. Use the Nearest Server Location

Easynews provides access through multiple server locations. Selecting the server closest to your geographic location can help improve performance. To change your server location:

  • Log into your Easynews account.

  • Navigate to your Preferences.

  • Select the Download Region nearest to you (e.g., US, EU, etc.).

2. Avoid Using a VPN If Not Needed

While VPNs offer added privacy, they can reduce connection speeds. If you're not using a VPN for specific reasons, try accessing Easynews with the VPN disabled to compare performance.

If you’re using the Easynews VPN:

  • Try switching VPN servers to one geographically closer to your location.

  • Test speeds with the VPN turned off for comparison.

3. Check for ISP Throttling

Some Internet service providers may limit traffic on certain types of connections. If you're seeing consistent slow speeds:

  • Try using a different port in your Easynews settings.

  • Use HTTPS for Web access.

  • Connect through the Easynews VPN to bypass restrictions.

4. Optimize Connection Settings

Make sure your newsreader or Web access tool is configured with the appropriate number of connections. Using too many can overwhelm your Internet connection or device, while using too few may not take full advantage of available bandwidth.

Recommended settings:

  • Start with 4–8 connections.

  • Gradually increase if needed, testing performance along the way.

5. Restart Your Modem and Router

Rebooting your networking equipment can often resolve temporary slowdowns. Power off both your modem and router, wait 30 seconds, then power them back on.

6. Test on Another Device or Network

To rule out device-related limitations or restrictions on your current Internet connection, try accessing Easynews from another device or network. This may help determine if the issue is local to your setup.

7. Check for Background Activity

If your device is running updates or streaming media, available bandwidth may be limited. Pause any non-essential activity and recheck your Easynews performance.

8. Confirm Your Plan Limits

Some Easynews plans have speed thresholds. Log into your account and verify your plan’s speed tier. Upgrading may be an option if you’ve reached a performance cap.
