How do I use the Zip Manager?

The Zip Manager is a utility within Easynews that enables users to consolidate multiple items into a single queue for streamlined retrieval. By selecting desired items and adding them to a zip queue, users can retrieve all queued items simultaneously as a compressed archive.

Adding Items to the Zip Queue

  1. Select Items: In group indexes or global search results, mark the checkboxes adjacent to the items you wish to queue.

  1. Queue Items: Click the "Zip" button to add the selected items to your chosen zip queue.

Retrieving Queued Items

Once items are added to the queue, use the "Download Now" or open Zip Manager and select "Download". You can also create an NZB for use with another newsreader by clicking the NZB button.

These links adhere to your Preferred Port settings, which can be adjusted in your preferences. For further details on port configurations, refer to the Route Selector tool.

Extracting the Compressed Archive

The resulting archive is in .zip format, compatible with various extraction tools. For more information on handling .zip archives, consider exploring resources like WinRar.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • CRC Errors with ZIPs from Zip Manager: If you encounter CRC errors when opening archives from the Zip Manager, it may be due to items being removed because they exceeded the article retention period or violated terms of service. When an item becomes unavailable for these reasons, it's also removed from all zip queues, potentially corrupting the archive if retrieval is attempted simultaneously.

  • Zip Manager Queue Is Empty After Item is Queued: If queued items do not appear, there might be a cache issue with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or computer. First, check the top of the Zip Manager page for any messages. If there are no messages explaining why the items were not added, clear your browser's temporary Internet files (cache) and delete cookies. Additionally, consider using alternate port options to bypass any proxy or cache servers that your ISP may be using, as they could contribute to this problem. After clearing the cache and adjusting port settings, click the "refresh" link on the Zip Manager page and try adding the items again; they should now appear in the default zip queue.

  • Zip Manager Queue Empty but Stating It Is Locked: If you attempt to add items to an empty zip queue and receive a message indicating that the queue is locked, this issue may result from a cached page. To resolve this, clear your browser's temporary Internet files (cache) and delete cookies. Afterward, click the "refresh" link on the Zip Manager page and try adding items to the zip queue again.

By utilizing the Zip Manager, Easynews users can efficiently manage and retrieve multiple items, enhancing their overall Usenet experience
