Requesting a Newsgroup on Easynews

Requesting Easynews Carry an Existing Newsgroup

Easynews carries every available newsgroup on Usenet—more than 120,000 groups—with article retention that spans years. If you're searching for a newsgroup and don't see it listed, it's likely because it has not yet received any traffic. New groups will appear once articles begin to populate them.

Requesting a Newsgroup Be Created

If you're interested in starting a new newsgroup on Usenet, the process involves submitting a formal request. This is typically done through the Big-8 Management Board, which oversees the creation of new groups within the Big 8 hierarchy (comp., humanities., misc., news., rec., sci., soc., and talk.).

To begin:

  1. Visit the Big 8 Management Board's website.

  2. Review the guidelines for proposing a new newsgroup.

  3. Submit a Request for Discussion (RFD) to news.groups.proposals, which allows the Usenet community to provide feedback.

  4. Participate in the discussion and revise your proposal as needed.

  5. If there is general support, a Call for Votes (CFV) will be issued.

  6. If the group receives sufficient votes in favor, it will be created and added to Usenet.

After the newsgroup is created and begins receiving articles, it will automatically appear in the Easynews interface.
